QED Performs Community Outreach

Giving Back

QED Information Systems returned to the classroom by bringing the concept of small business to students.

All About Business, is a Business 101 program aimed at students in the nine to twelve age ranges.

In the words of Tony Cummings, General Manager “The Business of America is Business. In fact, small business is the engine that generates jobs and wealth. However, in some communities owning and operating a business is a foreign concept, and to many it is out-of-reach.

The objective of this program is to introduce young people to the basic structure, functions and operating rules of businesses, with the goal of demystifying the concept of business and encouraging youngsters that becoming a producer may be more satisfying than just being a consumer”

Tony continued “We will use the business functions and issues as the framework that brings to life the core subjects of the student's basic curriculum like mathematics and language. We will use this model to draw parallels with the family unit and show how many of the rules that apply to business also match those of the family.

Students will be exposed to all of the activities (business functions) that are required to assist them in making wise purchasing decisions. Students will learn teamwork, group decision-making and other valuable skills essential in today’s connected society”.

Tony took his message to three classrooms of students at the Loren Miller Elementary School located in a low income section of Los Angeles. For a period of three months Tony personally taught the kids the basics of business, starting at how to identify a business venture, obtain a business license, secure capital, identify a market and conduct daily operations.

Each class was encouraged to operate their own business, nominate a president and management team, perform sales transactions, record entries in a ledger and interact with customers.

At the end of the semester, Tony issued certificates of completion to over one-hundred students.

Needless to say, these newly minted entrepreneurs enthusiastically embraced the concepts and took their duties seriously.

In the words of Tony The personal sacrifice and expense incurred by our company was an investment in our community and future employees and competitors, all of which will enrich the fabric of the United States of America
